I’m not a fan of Valentine’s Day, also not a fan of Valentine’s day crafts. Right now, they are everywhere and I can’t seem to escape it. But, you know what else happens on February 14th?! It’s the anniversary of the day Wayne’s World was released! One of my top five favorite movies of all time. So, what does this have to do with this heart pillow?
Well, I made this tote bag a few years ago and it’s still hanging in my craft room and I’ve been playing Wayne’s World on repeat on my computer for the last few days… This tote reminds me this scene at Stan Mikita’s.
So, I thought I’d make another one, but in a pillow version, to express my distaste for this ridiculous holiday. I’ve included the template so that you can make one, too. I mean, I can’t bring down this holiday on my own.
I made this pillow using a sewing machine and a serger. There are several ways to make one of these – you can check out my Hot Air Balloon Pillow Cover, made the same way using a sewing machine and a serger; or my Anthro-Inspired Heart Pillow and Easy Envelope Backed Pillow Cover, both made using only a sewing machine. Each one of these posts explains in detail how to complete the pillow or pillow cover so I’m just going to run through how to make the heart design on the front.
Right click the above image, save it to your computer and print it out at your desired size. Grab some Heat’n Bond and trace the shapes onto the paper side of the Heat’n Bond.
Cut out your little pieces and make sure you number them, otherwise you may end up with some other kind of organ. Plan out your fabrics and then iron the Heat’n Bond onto the wrong side of the fabric. Trim the shapes and lay out them out to create the heart. The fabric heart will be a reverse image of the drawing. I think the one on my tote bag is backwards. My bad.
Peel off the paper backing and lay the shapes out on your pillow fabric, overlapping slightly, and iron into place.
I left off shape number 5 and 6 in order to complete the stitching on shapes 3 and 4.
Pick a starting place and go for it. Just use your machine to “trace” around the shapes. I like to go over mine a few times to give it a “hand-doodled” look. After I “traced” shape 3, I added shape 5 on top and then stitched around it.
Keep goin’ until it’s all outlined. There are no rules here. Just go for it. If you aren’t familiar with free-motion sewing, check out this post for a few tips.
Close up your pillow or pillow cover using your method of choice. Boom. Look how easy that is!
I’m pretty sure that this is exactly what my heart looks like in an x-ray.
“Yeah, I know what you’d like to do. You’d like to find Valentine’s Day…. rip it’s still beating heart out of it’s chest and hold it in front of it’s face, so it can see how chocolate it is before it dies.”
No?
“Well…. the world’s a twisted place.”
Wishing you all a lovely Wayne’s World day. Getcha some coffee and crullers, stat.
FISH HOOOOOOK!!!
Keep this going please,great job!
I’m also pretty anti-valentine’s so this is nice.
My retaliation this year was a printable. You can check it out on my Printable’s Page.

Stopping over from the Atlanta Area DIY/Home Bloggers FB Group. This is too cute!! I have a friend who is a cardiologist that would go nuts over this 🙂 I would love for you to link up with us at Thursday STYLE link party. It goes live on my site at 8 EST tonight 🙂

Awesome! Thanks! Tweeting it!
ha–love it! And I haven’t seen Wayne’s World in forever….probably not since it first came out. I wonder if it’s time to show it to my 12 year old yet….
Thanks Gretchen! I was 11 when it came out and went through TWO VHS tapes of it… I probably watch it at least once a month (but three times in the last week). I could never discourage someone from watching WW, but there are a bunch of sexual references. Shaaaaa-wing.
Love how fun this is!!
Besides loving all of the fabrics and colors I absolutely love IT! If I saw that on someone’s sofa, I would know right away that we get each other. Thanks for linking up at The Makers Dena!
Thanks for hosting Corey!
Ha. Love it!
Well, this year cupid has hit me hard and I jumped on the love craft bandwagon. Plus I got the hubs the greatest card… https://www.etsy.com/transaction/180427946?ref=fb2_tnx_title

This would be cool to jazz up a sweatshirt… 🙂
Love the fabrics you used, Dena! Happy Wayne’s World Day!
Thanks Alexis!
I have never seen an anatomical heart look so pretty before! 🙂
Thanks Bethany!
I have a love/hate relationship with Valentine’s Day. I love getting gifts or flowers from the hubby but I definitely think there’s a lot of unnecessary pressure involved!
Right! Like, why can’t we all just love each other and eat chocolate all year long?
Now this is the kind of “Valentine’s” craft I can get behind! Valentine’s day isn’t my thing, but this pillow is perfection! Visiting from The Maker’s link party 🙂
Thanks Brynne! Followin’ ya!
I couldn’t agree more…not a fan of Valentines. However, I am a fan of this pillow! To cute!!!
Thanks Ruth!
I love this take on a heart pillow. It’s a great way to use up fabric scraps too.
Thanks Erlene! Projects like this are what made me a scrap hoarder!
