My friend Bob is the sweetest. And he knows I love a good chair makeover. He gives me his trash. Like these orange little ogres. He brought these over when we lived in Texas and I didn’t have room for them in the house, so they hung out in the backyard for about a month until we moved to Warm-lanta.
I knew I wanted to redo them but didn’t know what to do or where to put them. So I hung onto them.
Enter the new kitchen in ATL:
We didn’t have a breakfast nook in the last house and I knew these chairs would be perfect in here – post reno.
I removed the orange vinyl, replaced with gray vinyl, cleaned and sanded the chairs and then sprayed them with Rustoleum’s White Gloss.
Boom.
I also made some pillows to go with…
The curtains are Premier Prints Sydney Twill Storm.
And here they are in the new kitchen:
I picked up the table on Craigslist for $25 bucks – Check out the before pics. That fabulous light fixture is a find from my first trip to McKinney Trade Days – it’s a vintage fixture from Luby’s and used to be sooooper ugly.
We did a ton of other work in this kitchen, which you can see here .
One more look at the chairs before:
…and after:
Moral of the story? Think twice before you throw something away.
I mean, I’m not encouraging you to become a hoarder, but, take a second to close your eyes and imagine the possibilities before you toss it.
Note: Diapers, banana peels, used K-cups, and old bras ARE TRASH.
Although, I’m sure someone out there will try to prove me wrong.
Thanks for the trash, Bobby. Miss you.
Banana peels are great boiled in water and cooled as a liquid fertilizer in your garden ? so they don’t have to be trash !
Whoa, what?! That’s awesome. Does it really work?!
Dude, these chairs are so good, I had to warp-speed over here from Better After! You may have almost inspired me start up my DIY blog again. Almost 🙂 Seriously, that kitchin is kickin!
Thank you, Carla!!
They look beautiful!!
Thanks, Mindi!
Awesome job on the chairs! Don’t you love “donations” of trash when you know you can make them sing again? Have an awesome day!
Blessings, Deborah
Thank you, Deborah! And yes, I do! I’m ALWAYS accepting donations!

Holy crap. They’re amazing. Well done.
Thanks, Jane!
Love those chairs! And everything else. Thanks for sharing at The Makers.
Thank you, Ann!
Wonderful redo! I Love saving great stuff from the landfill, especially vintage..
Thanks, Brenda!
I bought my first house at the end of Feb and have gutted the kitchen and two bathrooms. I LOVE the gray and white color scheme. I might copy you and use it too if I ever am able to decorate and live normally again.
Oh, girl. All I can say is GOOD LUCK! It’s a backbusting job but once it’s done, its so worth it! All that hard work will make a cold beer taste better at the end of the day. You should come visit D and I in Georgia! Hug.
Amazing! I had to click through from Roadkill Rescue to see what you could possibly have done to improve those chairs. Stunning makeover! I checked out your kitchen too and it’s all so fresh and pretty now! That red tile was a mess!
Thanks, Christy! Oh goodness, that tile was a hot mess!
You are the queen of trash to treasure makeovers! Have you ever submitted your stuff to Better After? You totally should!!!
Never heard of it, I’ll google it. Thanks, Brynne!
I think Rustoleum should hire you for promotion and marketing.
Hey, have you ever redone rusted metal legs?
I have this crappy ripped up mechanic’s stool that I want to revamp. It’s awful. The cover is ripped, the foam is shredded and the legs rusted to crap. BUT I want it in my studio.
I have! And you know what? I used a product from Rustoleum! Clean ’em up with some steel wool and get all the loose stuff off and get the legs smooth and then use Rusty Metal Primer – Here’s a link to a rusty metal tea cart I used it on. 🙂 http://heartsandsharts.com/furniture-refurb-painting-over-rusted-metal/
That’s what it was called! I didn’t remember the name last time I went to the Home of all things that Need Fixing of the Depot.
Maybe I’ll tackle that after I build these shelves I’ve decided I need.
Thanks!
🙂
I need a Bob in my life!!
We actually found the coolest trash left on the side of the road in our neighborhood a few weeks ago. Someone was getting rid of a perfect condition antique wooden filing cabinet, so we acted like a bunch of creepers and ninja loaded that into the car.
Everyone needs a Bob in their life!
